Some wonder, how is it possible to rejuvenate the face without plastic surgery? Modern plastic surgeons are now utilizing syringes of materials (ie. facial fillers), similar to artists using clay, to help reshape and rejuvenate the face in the office with local anesthesia. The results with office treatments can help maintain and refresh, without the downtime of traditional plastic surgery. The above before/after photographs demonstrate results after Restylane lower eyelid lift treatment.
Cosmetic treatments for the lower eyelid are very popular among both men and women. Dark circles and lower eye bags may be present from a young age or develop as one gets older. A combination of excess fat around the eyes with insufficient fat below the eyes contribute to a valley or “dark circle” where a shadow develops. Sagging tissue from skin and muscle may contribute to the appearance lower eye bags too.

So how do plastic surgeons improve the lower eyelid without surgery? Facial fillers are placed in the valley of the dark circle, to bring the area of shadow out into the light. A range of different volumes are required to achieve desired results. Some patients only need one syringe of material, while other patients need several syringes to improve their dark circles. For example, younger patients with “tighter” skin may only need minimal filler, while older patients with “looser” skin will need more aggressive treatment. Multiple facial filler injections can be spaced out as needed and not performed at once, given the sensitivity of the lower eyelid area. The most popular fillers are Restylane® and Juvederm®.
Most patients will see results of a non-surgical lower eyelid lift immediately after treatment, but it may take a couple weeks for the filler to “settle”. Cosmetic results last for several months and can even last a year or longer for some. The facial filler gradually fades over time, usually over a period of several months. Most patients prefer to come periodically for light touch-ups to help maintain their cosmetic results.
For those patients who don’t want facial filler treatments, Dr. Chaboki may offer lower eyelid surgery with fat, skin, and/or muscle modification as necessary. Facial fillers, however, still play a role for those who have had surgery to help maintain a rejuvenated appearance.

What can you to for festoons
Thank you for reading the blog!
Malar festoons are challenging to treat reliably. Festoons may require a combination of treatments to help improve the appearance. Lifestyle modification, ex. diet, sleep, etc, can be part of the treatment plan. Speaking with a facial plastic surgeon can help determine appropriate options.
