Facelift options aren’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why Dr. Chaboki evaluates each patient individually, taking into account your goals, facial structure, and lifestyle. For some, a mini facelift—ideal for subtle, minimally invasive tightening—might be the perfect fit. Others may benefit from the transformative effects of a deep plane facelift, which addresses deeper layers of tissue for a more dramatic, long-lasting lift. Additional procedures, such as chin enhancement or neck liposuction, may be required to obtain the refreshed look you’re seeking.
Differences between Deep Plane and Mini Facelift
The primary difference between these two approaches to facelift surgery is that one gets under the layer of muscle (ie. superficial musculoaponeurotic system, SMAS) during the lift, the deep plane lift, while the mini lift tightens this muscle level superficially. Tissue dissection is more extensive in the deep plane lift for a more natural lift and can provide dramatic results especially for those with severe neck sagging. The mini lift only dissects tissue near the ear, and subsequently the results are more modest and shorter lasting.
Similarities between Deep Plane and Mini Facelift
Both methods typically involve incisions around the ear. Both a mini lift and deep plane facelift may also lift the neck and improve the jawline, but the deep plane addresses severe sagging better. Both remove excess skin, but typically more skin is removed with the deep plane facelift as more tissue is lifted. While the recovery might be a little longer with a deep plane lift, the recovery period is typically similar between these lifts, with a majority of healing in the first two weeks after surgery.
Deep plane facelifts and a mini lifts don’t address all the aspects of facial aging. Dr. Chaboki will review supplemental procedures with a facelift such as facial fat transfer, chin and neck liposuction, eyelid surgery, and a skin peel. Some patients benefit from a combination of procedures or often referred to as a “full facelift”.
