After liposuction, rhinoplasty and septoplasty are common cosmetic surgical procedures worldwide, especially in younger patients. However, not everyone is a candidate or wants surgery. As liquid lift procedures with facial fillers and wrinkle relaxers have grown in popularity, plastic surgeons have developed an alternative approach to reshape the nose in appropriate patients.
Facial Fillers
A tremendous variety of facial fillers are available to a cosmetic surgeon to rejuvenate the face, with hyaluronic acid fillers being the most popular. Restylane® and Belotero® are examples of hyaluronic acid fillers that rhinoplasty surgeons may use to reshape the nose without surgery. Downtime is minimal after a liquid lift rhinoplasty, as compared to surgical rhinoplasty. Results with facial fillers are immediate and very long-lasting, but not necessarily permanent.
Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty
Washington DC rhinoplasty surgeons primarily use facial fillers on the upper 2/3 of the nose. Augmentation rhinoplasty and improving contour irregularities in the bridge are the more common treatments. Rhinoplasty surgeons may use facial fillers in the following ways for both primary or revision nonsurgical rhinoplasty:
- top of the nose (in-between eye area) to reduce the prominence of a nasal bump
- side or top of nose to improve irregularities and asymmetries
- top of bridge to augment and provide more definition, more common for patients who complain of a flat or wide bridge
Numbing cream is placed on the skin and the nose is cleaned. The surgeon then injects the nose with facial filler. Discomfort is reported as minimal during treatment. In addition, bruising and swelling is also often very minimal. The before and after photographs on this page are immediately after treatment. Patients frequently return to work the same day or the next day after liquid lift treatments.
Primary or Revision Rhinoplasty
Surgery remains the primary method for most patients to permanently improve the nose. Nose reshaping with a liquid lift of the nose is a potential option for patients considering primary or revision rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that rhinoplasty, as with all plastic surgery, is a tailored procedure for each patient. There isn’t a “best” approach. The top rhinoplasty specialists use a variety of methods to reshape the nose.
