Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Before & After Case 125

Dark circles may develop under the lower eyelids for many reasons. As a result, one treatment might be insufficient to improve the appearance of dark circles. Dark circles are partly due to the shadow created by the excess volume of the eye above and the insufficient volume of the cheek below. Dark circles develop partially from excess fat around the eye, fat loss in the upper cheek area, and skin wrinkles. Subsequently, dark circles may be improved by fat reduction of the eye, volume augmentation of the upper cheek, and/or skin resurfacing treatments. Washington DC area plastic surgery patients will determine the best eyelid procedure(s) with guidance from their plastic surgeon. Eyelid surgery, fat injections, and/or facial filler injections are options to help improve one's appearance.

This woman wanted to improve the appearance of her dark circles with natural methods and to avoid temporary facial fillers (ex. Restylane®). Her light and sensitive skin along with sun exposure history predisposed her to develop more wrinkles and dark circles. After reading several positive plastic surgery reviews, she consulted with Washington DC facial plastic surgeon Dr. Chaboki to discuss cosmetic treatment options. Examination revealed significant asymmetry of the eyes, excess fat around the eye, but also insufficient fat volume of the upper cheek and midfacial area. She also had excess skin and wrinkles.

She underwent lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to reduce excess eye fat and fat injection of the upper cheek to restore volume. Incisions are hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid. Her early post-surgery photographs show improvement of her dark circles with a natural appearance. Further refinements patients may choose after eyelid surgery include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, or medical grade skin care to further improve skin wrinkles. She, along with many other plastic surgery patients, now refers friends and family to Dr. Chaboki for consultation.
