Patients who have a history of nasal injuries are routinely seen in a rhinoplasty surgeon's practice. The nose is inherently prone to injury, and injuries as children can affect the subsequent development of the nose. Nasal injuries can alter both the appearance and function of the nose resulting in a deviated septum, twisted nose, and nasal hump.

This Washington DC rhinoplasty patient had a nasal injury as a child. As a result of the childhood injury, he had a significantly deviated nose that developed with age. In addition, he was having chronic nasal congestion and was seeking rhinoplasty surgery to improve the breathing and appearance of the nose at the same time. The rhinoplasty goal was a straighter nose and improved his profile.

The patient underwent closed rhinoplasty and septoplasty. His rhinoplasty required osteotomies (i.e. bone reshaping), radix augmentation, and cartilage grafts to adequately contour the nose. Patients with a significantly deviated nose or a large nasal hump often need bone reshaping with osteotomy as part of the nasal surgery. After rhinoplasty photographs are approximately 6 weeks from the plastic surgery and demonstrate his natural results.
