Case Details
Reducing a nasal bump to improve the profile is one of the most common requests for rhinoplasty. A bump frequently consists of both bone and cartilage tissue. For patients with prior nasal injury or trauma, then scar tissue may also be present.
This Washington DC area man had a prior basketball injury, which contributed to his nasal bump and deviated septum. Physical examination also reveals a "low radix", which means the starting point of his nose on side view is relatively low. A low radix can accentuate the appearance of the nasal bump and can also make the tip of the nose appear to project far from the nose. The profile can be improved with a combination of reducing a bump and deprojecting the nasal tip, but also augmenting the root of the nose in appropriate cases.
He consulted with Washington DC closed rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Chaboki to review his nasal surgery options. His main concerns were to improve the nasal profile and symmetry, in addition to correcting a deviated nasal septum. A natural appearance and enhanced breathing was very important to him.
He underwent a closed septoplasty, rhinoplasty, and turbinate reduction. The profile was balanced by a combination of removing excess scar tissue at the bump and adding cartilage near the root of the nose. He is very happy with his rhinoplasty results.
