Case Details
Straightening a crooked nose is considered very difficult by many plastic surgeons. The reason for this difficulty in nasal surgery is multifactorial. For one, everyone has a variable degree of asymmetry in the face. This asymmetry is considered normal, expected, and may not be improved. Second, cartilage and bone have memory and can shift back to the original position following surgery. In addition, scar tissue can pull or distort tissue is various ways. Swelling can also alter the appearance of the nose.
This Washington DC rhinoplasty patient consulted with Dr. Chaboki to review potential rhinoplasty options. He is an active sports player and sustained mutiple nasal fractures over the years. Despite prior surgery with a "closed nasal reduction" by another plastic surgeon, he still had significant nasal asymmetry. Examination revealed significant asymmetry of the nasal bones and cartilage, including a severe deviated septum. He also had dynamic collapse of the nostril during inspiration.
He had a closed rhinoplasty, septoplasty, nasal valve repair, and turbinate reduction. His surgery was performed in a manner to preserve his native nose and avoid external scars. After photographs are several months after surgery. His nose is now straighter and appears natural. His nasal airway is much more open, and he is breathing much better.
