Case Details
Washington DC rhinoplasty patients often have nasal congestion from a deviated septum, nasal allergies, nasal valve compromise, or combination of issues. A deviated nasal septum can occur naturally or from prior injury. Septoplasty, surgery on a deviated septum, helps open the nasal passages and improve airflow. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is commonly combined with septoplasty to improve both the outside and inside of the nose.
This patient had a significant deviated septum which blocked both sides of the nose, in addition to chronic nasal allergies. A deviated septum can be visualized externally via an asymmetric nose or asymmetric nostrils. In addition, the nose did not balance the face with insufficiency at the root, or starting point of the nose, which created the illusion of a hump. Consultation with cosmetic rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Chaboki, allowed the patient to visualize various rhinoplasty procedures to achieve the patient's desired results. The nasal bones were straightened with osteotomies (bone reshaping). Cartilage grafts were placed at the root of the nose to provide better balance and reduce the hump. The nostril asymmetry was improved as part of the septoplasty. Dr. Chaboki was able to achieve these results via a closed rhinoplasty, thus avoiding external incisions.
