Rhinoplasty - Medical Before & After Case 105
Before & After
Case Details
Improving the profile is one of the most common requests for rhinoplasty. A bump is normally made of both bone and cartilage tissue. While most nasal bumps develop naturally, some bumps are from trauma or injury.
This Washington DC area man had a prior sports injury, which contributed to his nasal bump and deviated septum. In addition, he always had a low starting point of his nose on side view, alternatively known as a "low radix". He consulted with Washington DC rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Chaboki to review rhinoplasty options. His main concerns were to improve the profile, nasal breathing, and symmetry. He wanted to avoid external incisions and also to maintain the width of his nose for natural results.
He underwent a closed septoplasty, rhinoplasty, turbinate reduction, and nasal valve repair. The profile was improved by a combination of removing excess tissue at the bump and adding cartilage near the root of the nose, to create a smoother and balanced profile. No artificial implants, such as silicone, were used to build his bridge. Dr. Chaboki's preference is to use a patient's own tissue for rhinoplasty, rather than to use synthetic nasal implants.
