Rhinoplasty - Medical Before & After Case 196
Before & After
Case Details
Rhinoplasty, nose plastic surgery, can treat many aspects of the nose, including both the outside and inside of the nose. Patients travel to our Washington DC plastic surgery office often to request nasal surgery to improve both the form and function of the nose. They may have chronic nasal congestion from a deviated septum and want improve their profile. One benefit of combination nasal surgery is that cartilage modified from septoplasty may be used for grafts during the rhinoplasty procedure.
This Washington DC patient had chronic nasal congestion, which did not improve with allergy medication. She had prior nasal injury, which contributed to a deviated septum and a nasal bump. She traveled to see Dr. Chaboki for consultation and review of potential surgical options for the nose. Examination revealed a severe deviated nasal septum, low radix, and droopy tip. The nasal tip can droop more in some with smiling.
The patient underwent a closed rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. Endoscopic sinus surgery and osteotomy was not required for this particular patient. Cartilage grafts from the nasal septum were used to improve the nasal profile and elevate the nasal tip. The patient still looks herself six weeks after rhinoplasty, but has an improved nose on both the outside and inside. The nose will continue to be refined as the rhinoplasty swelling resolves. She is extremely happy with the improved breathing and appearance.
Dr. Chaboki performs all types of rhinoplasty procedures, but most commonly utilizes a closed approach for nasal surgery, which avoids external incisions. Generally less swelling is another potential advantage of closed rhinoplasty, as compared to other surgical rhinoplasty.
