Rhinoplasty - Medical Before & After Case 200
Case Details
Rhinoplasty treats many aspects of the nose, both internal and external. Patients often travel to our Washington DC plastic surgery office to improve the form and function of the nose. Patients might be suffering from chronic nasal congestion from a deviated septum or chronic sinus allergies, and, at the same time, want to improve their profile. One benefit of combination rhinoplasty and sinus surgery is that cartilage modified from septoplasty may be used for grafts to reshape the nose during cosmetic rhinoplasty.
This Washington DC patient had chronic sinus problems and nasal congestion, which did not improve with antihistamines and nasal sprays. She was referred to Dr. Chaboki by her sinus surgeon for consultation and review of potential surgical options for the external nose. Examination revealed a deviated nasal septum, nasal bump, low radix, and droopy tip. The nasal tip dropped further with smiling.
The patient underwent a closed rhinoplasty by Dr. Chaboki, in addition to endoscopic sinus surgery. Osteotomy (bone reshaping) was required for this particular patient. Cartilage grafts from the nasal septum were used to improve the nasal profile and elevate the nasal tip. She also had chin liposuction to improve submental fullness from congenital excess neck fat. She still looks herself six weeks after rhinoplasty, but has an improved nose on both the outside and inside. The appearance and function of her nose will continue to be refined as the rhinoplasty swelling resolves. Plastic surgeons generally advise that it takes several months to a year or longer for "final" results. She is extremely happy with her improved breathing and appearance. Individual results and experiences will vary. We're honored and greatly appreciate the opportunity to help those considering plastic surgery in DC. Dr. Chaboki performs all types of plastic surgery procedures and most commonly utilizes a closed approach for nasal surgery, which avoids external incisions. Less swelling is generally considered another potential advantage of closed rhinoplasty, as compared to other types of surgical rhinoplasty.
