What Does Plastic Surgery Cost?
Here in Washington, DC, the cost of plastic surgery involves a variety of factors:
- Surgeon’s fee for performing the procedure
- Hospital, operating room, or facility charges
- Anesthesia fees
- Cost of supplies or implants
- Laboratory, radiology, or testing fees
The surgeon’s fee is for performing the procedure and not for results. Results are never guaranteed. We provide an estimate of these fees to each patient well in advance of the surgery itself. Keep in mind that additional unforeseen costs, such as secondary or revisionary surgery, a hospital stay, or postoperative testing, are the responsibility of the patient.

Other factors that may affect the cost of your plastic surgery include:
- Combined procedures: Efficiency generally reduces the costs associated with surgery. For example, combining fat transfer with a facelift in a single surgery is more cost‐effective than performing each procedure separately.
- Complexity: Extensive or revision procedures may require more time, materials, or anesthesia than simple procedures that are isolated to specific areas.
Only after a complete evaluation, during which we’ll discuss the specific procedure or procedures that interest you and determine the extent of the proposed surgery as well as the surgery location, can we offer you an estimate. At the time of your consultation, we outline all fees.
The plastic surgery cost information we feature throughout our website is an estimation of anticipated fees, which may include the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, facility, and material fees. The actual cost of your surgery will vary based on several factors, including complexity and location. All prices listed are subject to change, and costs associated with surgery are non‐refundable.
Will My Insurance Cover Plastic Surgery?
Most cosmetic surgery is elective, so insurance plans don’t usually cover it. However, there are exceptions. Remember, plastic surgery covers a broad area of medicine which includes both reconstructive procedures and cosmetic procedures. If your procedure is medically indicated, some portion of the cost may be covered by your insurance plan. You may always contact your insurance company directly to find out if your procedure of choice may be covered. Insurance coverage varies greatly for patients, and patients are ultimately responsible for fees.
Potomac Plastic Surgery and its physicians are out–of–network providers for reconstructive surgery and billing will be allocated as out–of–network. We have also opted out of the Medicare program, which means neither patients nor physicians may submit claims to Medicare for services provided.
Patients are still free to choose their physician, and many insurance plans also allow patients to seek a physician outside of the network. Patients who opt for an out–of–network physician may be able to use the available benefits from within their existing health insurance plan to help pay for reconstructive services at Potomac Plastic Surgery. Many of the reconstructive plastic surgery procedures, such as septoplasty, sinus surgery, and breast reconstruction, can be billed to insurance providers as an out–of–network option.
Insurance can feel complicated so let us help you! As a courtesy, we are happy to help you understand your specific insurance program after your initial consultation. You can know what may be picked up with insurance, and what may not, before moving forward with your procedures. We want you to make the best choices for your results.
At Potomac Plastic Surgery, we try to work with patients to help understand and manage costs. We create a clear estimate prior to any surgery so that patients can make informed decisions. Potomac Plastic Surgery can also work with patients so that professional surgeon costs are similar to in–network providers. However, other fees such as anesthesia, facility, hospital, and laboratory fees are billed and managed separately from our office.
Don’t be intimidated by insurance for selecting the best for your care. Let us help you. We are here for you.
Is There a Consultation Fee for Plastic Surgery?
Yes. We apply a consultation fee to every office visit. These fees are separate from procedure fees and are non‐refundable.
Patient Financing
It’s important to choose your plastic surgeon based on their credentials instead of on getting a good deal. To alleviate financial stress, qualified patients can make monthly payments toward their procedures with financing through PatientFi®. You choose the payment plan that works for you; there’s even an option for 0% interest. The application process is easy and won’t affect your credit score to see if you qualify.
